Georges Bank: Designing a special exhibit for the New England
Aquarium. (poster SI meeting in Durham, NH)
Ari W. Epstein
During the summer of 1997, the New England Aquarium will present a
special exhibit about Georges Bank. This exhibit represents the first
of a new kind of exhibit that the Aquarium is developing: I) It will
be highly interactive---there will be relatively few tanks of live
animals and a large number of hands--on activities. II) It will have
an interdisciplinary focus--the exhibit will show the physical
environment in which the animals live, describe the interconnections
among physics, geology and biology, and cover in detail the cultural,
economic and political aspects of the Georges Bank fishery. III) It
will be designed to provide a deeper, more detailed kind of learning
experience than is currently available at the Aquarium.
