This proposal is one of three which are coordinated to produce a comprehensive approach to coupled biophysical modeling of Georges Bank. Here, our proposal is to couple the Rutgers North Atlantic Basin (NAB) model to the Dartmouth Georges Bank (GB) model, and to investigate the coupled response of the NAB/GB system. Questions of particular interest include the identification of those processes which mediate and/or control shelf/basin exchange in this region, and the production of an improved hindcast capability for the physical environment during the GLOBEC field study. Specifically, we will focus on the simulation of the two key GLOBEC field programs ("process studies") in 1995 and 1997, and the identification of decadal-scale variations in the oceanic regime, to accompany the retrospective analyses to be conducted during GLOBEC.
