Real-Time ARGOS data from moorings

The GLOBEC Long-Term Moored program is supplying Selected data from their two moorings on Georges Bank in near real-time. The moorings are deployed in about 75 meters of water and are located at:

Hourly averaged data are telemetered via ARGOS and retrieved daily via e-mail. The data are processed about 9 AM each morning after the daily ARGOS data is received. Software determines if the mooring is out of position and alerts us if so, then normalizes the data to geophysical units and stores it for all to access.

The data is stored on the anonymous ftp area of the project's workstation, KELVIN.WHOI.EDU. It can be accessed by logging in as "anonymous" user with your e-mail address as the password. Then change to the "globec" subdirectory. There will be three files there. They are:

The daily data is added onto the end of a file stored elsewhere, so that these will grow daily in size. Presently the last 200 lines (about a week) of this data is included in the anonymous ftp area. This allows one to see the latest data by simply listing the file and not be swamped by data. The entire deployment is still available if anyone wants to retrieve it for plotting. It is also on KELVIN.WHOI.EDU, but in \users\georges\deploy9\data\processed\argos.

NOTE THAT THE DATA IS NOT EDITED OR SCREENED IN ANY WAY. DATA WILL CONTAIN SOME SENSOR, DATA SYSTEM, ARGOS TELEMETRY, SYSTEM AND OUR PROCESSING SOFTWARE ERRORS. THE DATA IS SUPPLIED TO MEET REAL-TIME PROGRAM NEEDS, AND SHOULD BE USED WITH THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THE DATA MAY (AND PROBABLY WILL) CONTAIN A FEW BAD DATA POINTS.
