Georges Bank: A New, Highly Interactive Exhibit
at the New England Aquarium

Ari W. Epstein

A new, highly interactive exhibit about Georges Bank has just opened at the New England Aquarium in Boston. In addition to describing the Georges Bank ecosystem and explaining why the Bank is such a highly productive area, the exhibit explains the Bank's importance as a source of food and its role in shaping the history, culture and economy of New England. It also discusses the decline of the Georges Bank fisheries, the steps being taken to restore the fisheries, and the effects those steps will have on fishermen, consumers, and the ecosystem. The exhibit consists of live animals, graphic displays, and a large number of interactive exhibit elements, which are designed to draw visitors into the exhibit as active participants.
