File: lmg_met1m.mat Contents: Basic underway ship-board meteorological and sea surface temperature, salinity, and fluorense data collected on LMG02-1A. Date: February 26, 2002 Source: JGOF file jgyd.dat placed on ship's DAS_DATA drive (Q:\current_cruise\geopdata\JGOF\) at the end of each day. Processing: 1. Simple conversion from JGOF format into MatLab variables, removing pad values, and constructing complete 1-min time series for those days with very small data gaps. Larger gaps, like the many hour gap in the thermosalinograph data (sst, sss) and fluoromter when the instruments are turned off while at Palmer Station are filled with NaNs. 2. The short-wave radiation data (sw) has a large negaitve offset during night. This bias appears to get larger during the cruise. Overall, the sw record suggests that most days were marked by quite low sw values. Significant sw was measured only when the sun was high and there were no clouds or low level overcast present. The sw data should be viewed with caution until the sensor is recalibrated at Eppley after the cruise. 3. The wind speed and direction data should be considered as prelimary and subject to some contaimination by the ship's motion. 4. The JGOFS wind direction convention is meteorological, i.e., wd is the direction measured clockwise from true N that the wind is coming from. We include here the oceanogaphic convention wind direction wdr, i.e., the direction measured counterclockwise from E that the wind is blowing towards (the wind vector direction).
