GLOBEC Software Tools
There are several software tools to help the scientific investigators
acquire, analyse and display information. For further information

A list of JGOFS and related software "wish list" items is available
- AAPLAY: The Autodesk Animation Player is
a program for viewing a wide variety of animation formats, including
*.fli and *.flc file types. You can create your own animation
files too. To get the software, go to

- WHOI Silhouette
DIGITIZER is a MATLAB-based computer program for measuring the lengths of
marine organisms in the macrozooplankton size range. This program allows you to
identify and measure the organisms from a
plankton sample that has been photographed and scanned.
- EventLog QuattroPro utility to simplify manual logging of
stations and other cruise events.
- a matlab based utility to generate a basic plot of
the Georges Bank area with isobath lines. You can ftp a
zip file or select the files

- GMT - Generic
Mapping Tools used by our "options server" to produce some of the
JGOFS Data System's plots.
JGOFS/GLOBEC software: The US
GLOBEC version of the JGOFS sofware is available here. Download the
last available tar file.
- Kriging software: The
EasyKrig, Matlab based, kriging tool written by Dezhang Chu is
available for download from
ftp://globec.whoi.edu/pub/software/kriging/easy_krig/. It will operate
on many platforms (PC-Windows/2000/XP, Macintosh and Unix-based,including Linux
and Solaris OS) as long
as the Matlab program is installed.
Version 3.0, compatible with Matlab 6, is available for Macs
and PCs and Linux/Unix machines.
In January 2013, Dezhang Chu tested
a revised version of the Matlab code and it worked well with Matlab 2012a. He
would like to acknowledge Dr. Kathelijne M. Wijnberg for this version.
This version is accessible as a zip file, EasyKrig_V3.0_Matlab2012a.zip,

- Matlab code for local and remote import of JGOFS database data
directly into MATLAB. You need Matlab running on your
machine, including the external interface code to use this
is used to convert a 256-color PCX graphic file (zsoft format) to a
2-color (Black and White) PCX graphic file. In the process of
conversion, dither patterns are substituted for each color in the

- Visualization tools
will be very useful during the analysis and synthesis of the U.S. GLOBEC
Georges Bank data. We are looking into various ways (Web-based, client based,
