  1. These data are accessed under the the GLOBEC homepage-->data-->process-->{year}-->alongtrack
  2. These are single ascii files per cruise with several variables merged to one minute (interpolated) time steps. The user should be aware of the availability of the unmerged "raw" data at http://www.wh.whoi.edu/~albscs (for Albatross data) if they want the actual data which, for some sensors/variables, was recorded as frequently as every 5 seconds and by more than one instrument. Contact Jim Manning for authorization to access these data.
  3. The first column is the time stamp which, for Albatross convention, is "yrday1_local" which means, for example, that a time of "1.5" represents local noontime on Jan 1st. Note that the "Albatross convention" may change so the user must pay attention to the time stamp variable name in the future cruises.
  4. I have been processing Albatross alongtrack data on an "as requested" basis so just let me know when you want a particular cruise that is not already posted.
  5. We all understand this data (shipboard temp, salt, wind, etc.) should be treated as uncalibrated records and should not be used other than exploratory purposes.

Calibrated CTD files were prepared by R. Limeburner except for stations 1, 37, 51 and 61 which were processed by Russ Burgett.

There was no station 95 for this cruise.

Examination of the files showed the salinity (and sigma_t) to be suspect. The salinty and sigma_t fields have been manually edited and obvious problems marked as no data (nd), however care should be taken when using the salinity and sigma_t from these files. Pressure, temperature, salinity and sigma_t from a SeaBird CTD added to the Seward Johnson CTD package are available for casts 112-114, 116, 124-128, 130-136, 138-140, 142-151, 153-160, 162, 164-172, and 174-185. It is recommended to use these files when possible. They are available as a separate object.

Examination of the unprocessed CTD files showed a 4 dbar pressure offset in the CTD calibration. This offset was added to the pressure in the calibrated files.

The seabird CTD was added to the Seward Johnson CTD package after cast 111 due to poor quality conductivity data. Seabird casts 112-114, 116, 124-128, 130-136, 138-140, 142-151, 153-160, 162, 164-172, and 174-185 are available in this data set.
