<title>Multi-beam bathymetric survey, continental margin west of the
        Antarctic Peninsula, GLOBEC</title>

    <descript>
Multi-beam bathymetric data, using the ship's Sea Beam System,
was acquired during three cruises to the Antarctic as part of the U.S.
GLOBEC Southern Ocean study 2001-02. The general survey area includes the
continental margin to the west of the Antarctic Peninsula extending from
the northern tip of Adelaide Island to the southern portion of Alexander
Island, and Marguerite Bay. Although the Sea Beam System acquired data
continuously, only the data south of 65 South has been edited and final
processed. The final processed data set is archived on 8mm tape having
the following attributes: MBIO Data Format ID: 43 Format name:
MBF_SB2100B2 Informal Description: SeaBeam 2100 series vender format
Attributes: SeaBeam 2100, bathymetry and amplitude, 151 beams bathymetry,
binary, SeaBeam Instruments and L-DEO. The software used to process and
display these multi-beam data (in the above referenced format) is
available as shareware from the following web site: Due to the nature of
this data set, it has been deposited with NOAA's National Geophysical
Data Center (NGDC) in Boulder, Colorado for archival and dissemination
purposes. Users seeking these data should contact the NGDC
("http://www.ngdc.noaa.gov/") referencing the data collected during the
      following cruises: Ships/cruises/dates RVIB Nathaniel B. Palmer / NBP0103
      / Apr 24-Jun 05 2001 RVIB Nathaniel B. Palmer / NBP0104 / Jul 24-Aug 31
      2001 RVIB Nathaniel B. Palmer / NBP0202 / Apr 09-May 21 2002 Note: Cruise
dates are generally longer then dates of data. User Caution: This is a
very large data set and only individuals with experience in working with
multi-beam data should attempt to acquire it. As an alternative, Mr.
Bolmer is making a revised bathymetric map of the region using all
      available data. See web site:
