      <abstract>Sea ice, ice snow cover and meteorological conditions were
      observed on a near hourly basis along the ship's tracks, Jul-Aug 2001 and
      Aug-Sep 2002. Sea ice types and concentrations (areal coverage) are
      reported using the 1997 standard ice observation protocols (codes) for
      sea ice thickness observations made aboard ships in the Antarctic pack
      ice. The general survey area includes: the continental shelf to the west
      of the Antarctic Peninsula extending from the northern tip of Adelaide
      Island to the southern portion of Alexander Island, and Marguerite Bay.
      Additional meterological observations, at a higher sampling resolution,
      are available for these same cruises. They can be found at the same
