Subject: Your proposed DSR II special issue on paprs from the Northwest At lantic GLOBEC program From: "Smit, Tonny (ELS)" Date: Wed, 4 Feb 2004 09:11:32 -0000 To: "'pwiebe@whoi.edu'" Dear Dr. Wiebe, May I begin by introducing myself as the administrative editor assisting Kristien van Lunen, the Product Manager for Deep Sea Research II, with her special issue projects. Via Prof. John Milliman we received a copy of your e-mail concerning your proposal for a special issue of Deep Sea Research II containing the above proceedings. We are delighted to hear that you have chosen Deep Sea Research II to publish the issue in and we wish you much success. The final decision on the acceptance of the papers for publication lies with the Editor, Professor John Milliman With this e-mail I am forwarding some additional information which may be of help during the compilation and review of the special issue papers. <> <> <> <> The Manuscript acceptance form is helpful for the author as well as the editor to make sure that all necessary information has been provided. The Reviewer Checklist can be useful for reviewers as an instrument in their evaluation of the manuscripts. The Special Issue Information Form should preferably be completed and forwarded together with the accepted papers for the special issue. It provides us with additional information on the special issue and also serves as a final checklist for the guest editors. Authors are also strongly advised to visit our following websites for further guidance on electronic submission and the preparation of art work: http://authors.elsevier.com/GuideForAuthors.html?PubID=116 http://www.elsevier.nl/locate/disksub http://www.elsevier.nl/locate/authorartwork Following the advice of these Guidelines, and especially the electronic guidelines, it would greatly help and speed up the actual production process, when authors, along with papers, can provide the details of the software/hardware used for their papers' electronic files. Colour figures provided with the papers will be in colour on-line. Should the authors also wish to have their figures published in colour then it will be very helpful if they could indicate which figures should be printed in colour, and also that they accept the costs involved for colour printing. If a paper contains colour figures which authors wish to have printed in black and white, then it is requested to have 2 sets of figures for these: 1 set of colour figures to be placed on the web, and 1 set black and white figures for printing. As you may already know, we will provide one copy of the special issue free of charge to each first author and 5 copies to each of the Guest Editors. We look forward to working with you on this issue. Please keep Professor Milliman and myself regularly updated as to the progress of the issue. Should you have any queries then please do not hesitate to contact me. Yours sincerely, Tonny Smit (Ms) Administrative Editor Elsevier B.V.
