7 October, 1998:

  • The U.S. GLOBEC web site, formerly created / maintained by Hal Batchelder at UC-Berkeley, has now been successfully transferred to its new home at UMCES / CBL. The Scientific Steering Committee extends a hearty round of thanks for all of Hal's creative hard work over the past several years in getting the US GLOBEC web site up and running smoothly. We intend to build on the framework that Hal began, and will be adding updates and new features to the site over the next several months as time and resources permit. Please be patient as we slowly bring these changes on-line. Note that the NEW URL of these pages is:

    ../index.html

11 June, 1998:

  • The U.S. GLOBEC web site, which was formerly hosted by a Mac, is now served from a UNIX machine. The changeover should be largely transparent to the visitor, except that on UNIX, upper and lower-case matter, whereas the Mac doesn't recognize case in filenames. This required standardizing the file naming convention. Now, all web pages consist of lower case letters. This might render some bookmarked pages invalid.

27 January, 1998:

  • Effective 1 January, 1998, the chairmanship of the U.S. GLOBEC program has rotated from Dr. Thomas (Zack) Powell (Univ. of California, Berkeley) to Dr. Michael Fogarty of the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science / Chesapeake Biological Laboratory. The U.S. GLOBEC coordinating office will be relocated to Solomons, MD during the first quarter of 1998. Kay Goldberg, former administrative assistant in the U.S. GLOBEC office, has left the office and taken another position at UC-Berkeley. Hal Batchelder will continue to coordinate the U.S. GLOBEC office in Berkeley, and oversee the transfer of the office to Maryland, but will not continue on as Coordinator of the U.S. GLOBEC National Office after it is located in Maryland. During this transition period there may be more frequent interruptions in service (e-mail response times, web server, etc.). Please bear with us as we attempt to make the transition as transparent and painless as possible.
