Standard model and "xi" model have different fax page memory sizes and zoom factor ranges for copying.<p> The best choice for printing is the "hpijs" driver developed by HP.<p> The best output one gets with HP's HPIJS 1.3 or newer. If you cannot update to HPIJS 1.3 for some reason, you can also use HPIJS 1.2.2 with the patches from Matthias Bunte and Richard Spencer-Smith ("hpijs-rss"). The GIMP-Print driver also works (Model setting: "pcl-900"), but only up to 600 dpi.<p> Scanning works using the <a href="http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/">HPOJ</a> low-level driver together with its <a href="http://www.sane-project.org/">SANE</a> backend "hpoj".<p> Copying should just work, it does not need the PC..<p> PC faxing not yet supported.<p> If you only want to print with this model over USB, you MUST use either Linux kernel 2.4.19 or later, the modified printer.c kernel module from the <a href="http://hpoj.sourceforge.net">HPOJ</a> website, or the <a href="http://hpoj.sourceforge.net">HPOJ</a> software anyway, even if you don't need <a href="http://hpoj.sourceforge.net">HPOJ</a>'s support for non-printing functionality.
