To report a bug or make a suggestion regarding the &app; application or this manual, follow the directions in the GNOME Feedback Page. GGV GNOME Ghostview The GNOME Ghostview (GGV) application enables you to view PostScript files. The application is based on GNU GhostView. &app; runs the Ghostscript application in the background, to interpret PostScript files. &app; provides the user with a simple user interface to display PostScript files on screen or print the files to a printer. You can start &app; in the following ways: Applications menu Choose GraphicsGGV PostScript Viewer. Command line Execute the following command: ggv You can use command line options to modify the way in which you run &app;. To view the command line options, execute the following command: ggv --help When you start &app;, the following window is displayed.

Shows GNOME Ghostview main window.

The &app; window contains the following elements: Menubar The menus on the menubar contain all of the commands that you need to work with files in &app;. Choose View Layout Show Menus to show or hide the menubar. Toolbar The toolbar contains a subset of the commands that you can access from the menubar. Choose View Layout Show Toolbar to show or hide the toolbar. Display pane The display pane displays the PostScript file. Right-click in the display pane to invoke a popup menu. Sidebar The sidebar is displayed to the left of the display pane. The sidebar contains the following items: Zoom spin box: enables you to enlarge or shrink the content of the display pane. Read-only coordinates field: displays the X and Y coordinates of the mouse pointer in the display pane. The unit of measurement that the field displays is specified in the Document tabbed section of the GGV Preferences dialog. Toggle buttons: enable you to mark pages so that you can perform an action on the marked pages. The following toggle buttons are available: Toggle marked state of all pages Toggle marked state of odd pages Toggle marked state of even pages Unmark all pages See for more information about the toggle buttons. Page list: displays a list of the pages in a file. Choose View Layout Show Sidebar to show or hide the sidebar. Statusbar The statusbar displays information about current application activity and contextual information about the menu items. Choose View Layout Show Statusbar to show or hide the statusbar. To open a file, choose File Open to display the Select a PostScript document dialog. Select the file that you want to open, then click Open. You can also drag a file from another application, such as a file manager, to the &app; window. The application displays the file in a new &app; window. To view a file, you can use the following options: To view the next page, choose Go Next page . To view the previous page, choose Go Previous page . To view the first page in the file, choose Go First page . To view the last page in the file, choose Go Last page . If a page is larger than the display pane, use the scrollbars to scroll the current page. You can also use the arrow keys on the keyboard to scroll the current page. To view the whole page in the display pane, choose View Auto-fit Fit to Page Size . To view the whole width of the page in the display pane, choose View Auto-fit Fit to Page Width . To return to the original document size, choose View Auto-fit No Auto-fit . To resize the &app; window to have the same width and height as the screen, choose View Fullscreen mode . To resize the &app; window to the original size, right-click on the document then choose Fullscreen mode from the popup menu. To resize the content that is displayed in the display pane, choose View Zoom , then select the appropriate zoom level. To reload a file and update the display in the display pane, choose File Reload . To change the orientation of a file, choose View Orientation , then select the orientation option that you want. The orientation options are as follows: Portrait Landscape Upside down Seascape To reset the orientation of the file to the orientation that is set in the properties of the file, choose View Orientation Document Orientation . The page size of the file determines the height and width of each page in the file. To change the page size, choose View Size , then select the page size that you want from the list of page sizes available. To reset the page size of the file to the page size that is set in the properties of the file, choose View Size Document Size . You can mark pages in a file for the following reasons: To print only marked pages. To save only marked pages to a new file. To mark or unmark pages, perform the following actions: Action Button Mark or unmark all of the pages in the file. Shows Toggle all button. Mark or unmark all of the odd pages in the file. Shows Toggle odd button. Mark or unmark all of the even pages in the file. Shows Toggle even button. Unmark all pages in the file. Shows Unmark all button. To save the marked pages in a file to a new file, choose File Save marked pages . A save dialog is displayed. Enter a name for the output file, then click Save. The application saves the pages to the new file, and maintains the original page numbers of the pages. To print a file to the default system printer, choose File Print document . To print only the marked pages in a file, choose File Print marked pages . To close a file, choose File Close . To configure &app;, choose Edit PostScript Viewer Preferences . The GGV Preferences dialog contains the following tabbed sections: Document Layout Navigation Ghostscript Printing Default Zoom Use this drop-down list to specify the default zoom level to view files. Auto-fit mode Use this drop-down list to specify the mode in which to display files when you open files in &app;. The following options are available: None Do not resize the pages in a file to fit in the display pane. Fit to page width Automatically resize the pages in a file to display the full page width in the display pane. Fit to page size Automatically resize the pages in a file to display the full page in the display pane. Coordinate units As you move the mouse pointer around an open document, &app; displays the position of the pointer in the sidebar. Use this drop-down list to specify the measurement unit in which to display the pointer position. Fallback page size Use this drop-down list to specify the paper size to use if the properties of a file do not specify a paper size. Override document size Select this option to use the paper size specified in the Fallback page size drop-down list regardless of whether a paper size is specified in the properties of a file. Fallback media orientation Use this drop-down list to specify the orientation in which to display a file if the properties of a file do not specify the orientation. Override document orientation Select this option to use the orientation specified in the Fallback media orientation drop-down list regardless of whether the orientation is specified in the properties of a file. Antialiasing Select this option to use antialiasing to display files. Antialiasing produces a better quality display. Respect EOF comments Select this option to instruct the application to acknowledge end-of-file comments. Watch file Select this option to monitor the content of the file that you view, and reload the file if the content changes. Show side panel Select this option to display the sidebar by default when you start the application. For more information about the sidebar, see . Put side panel on the right-hand side Select this option to display the sidebar to the right of the display pane when you start the application. Show menubar Select this option to display the menubar by default when you start the application. Show toolbar Select this option to display the toolbar by default when you start the application. Show statusbar Select this option to display the statusbar by default when you start the application. Save geometry Select this option to save the geometry of the &app; window and the Select a PostScript document dialog when you quit the application. When you start the application again, &app; uses the saved geometry settings to display the &app; window. Jump to beginning of page Select this option to display the top left corner of the next or previous page when you use the Page Down and Page Up keys on the keyboard to navigate a file. To activate a change to this setting, you must restart the application. Automatically flip pages Select this option to display the next or previous page when you use the arrow keys to scroll a file. If you do not select this option, the arrow keys only move the display around the page. Amount of visible area to scroll Use this spin box to specify how much of the display pane to scroll at a time. Outline last visible part when scrolling Select this option to display an outline around the last section of the page that was visible. This option only works when you use the mouse to scroll through the document. The Ghostscript tabbed section contains default commands for each of the Ghostscript-related functions. If necessary, you can use the following text boxes to specify an alternative command for each function: Interpreter Type the command required to run the Ghostscript PostScript interpreter. Include the path to the Ghostscript executable file and any options that you want to use to run the application. Antialiasing Type the command required to antialias a file. Convert PDF to DSC file Type the command required to run Ghostscript on a PDF file and convert the PDF file to a Document Structuring Convention (DSC) file. Convert PDF to PS Type the command required to run Ghostscript on a PDF file and convert the PDF file to PostScript format. Gzip Type the command required to run the Gzip application to decompress a compressed .gz file. When &app; opens a compressed .gz file, &app; runs this command and opens the file. Bzip2 Type the command required to run the Bzip2 application to decompress a compressed .bz2 file. When &app; opens a compressed .bz2 file, &app; runs this command and opens the file. The Print tabbed section contains a default command to print files. If necessary, you can use the following text box to specify an alternative command for the print function: Print command Type the command required to print a PostScript file from the &app; window.
