<title>Preferences</title>

<sect2 id="gtik-set-proxy">
<title>To Set a Proxy Server</title>
<para>If your computer is located behind a firewall you must use a proxy server to run <application>&applet;</application> successfully. To configure the GNOME Desktop to use a proxy server, use your preference tools to specify the network proxy server for Internet connections.</para>

<title>To Configure &applet;</title>
<para>To configure <application>&applet;</application>, right-click on the applet, then choose <guimenu>Preferences</guimenu>. The <guilabel>Stock Ticker Preferences</guilabel> dialog contains the following tabbed sections:</para>

<title>Symbols</title>
<para>The <guilabel>Symbols</guilabel> tabbed section contains a list of stock quotes displayed by <application>&applet;</application>. You can add stock quotes to the <guilabel>Current stocks</guilabel> list, and remove stock quotes.</para>
<para>To add a stock quote to the <guilabel>Current stocks</guilabel> list, perform the following steps:</para>

<listitem><para>Identify the stock symbol for the company. </para></listitem>
<listitem><para>Type the stock symbol for the company in the <guilabel>New symbol</guilabel> text box.</para></listitem>
<listitem><para>Click <guibutton>Add</guibutton>.</para></listitem>
<listitem><para>Click <guibutton>Close</guibutton> to save the change and close the dialog.</para></listitem>

<para>To remove a stock quote from the <guilabel>Current stocks</guilabel> list, perform the following steps:</para>

<para>Use this drop-down list to change the speed at which the applet displays the quotes in the scrolling display.</para>

<para>Select this option to display forward and back arrow buttons on the applet to enable you to move forwards or backwards in the applet display. </para>

<listitem>
<para>Select this option to reverse the direction in which the applet display scrolls. If you select this option, the display scrolls from left to right instead of from right to left. </para>

<para>Click on this button to choose the font to use to display the stock symbol and current price. </para>

<para>Click on this button to select a color to display stock quotes that are higher than the previous stock quote. Click on the color button to display a color selector dialog. Use the <guilabel>Palette</guilabel>, color wheel, or spin boxes on the color selector dialog to choose a color. </para>
