Shows Weather Report applet. Contains a weather icon and current temperature

The &applet; applet downloads weather information from the U.S National Weather Service (NWS) servers, including the Interactive Weather Information Network (IWIN). You can use &applet; to display current weather information and weather forecasts on your computer. If your computer is located behind a firewall, you must use a proxy server to access the weather servers. For more information about how to specify a proxy server, see . &applet; displays the following information for the default location, or a location that you specify: A weather icon that represents the general weather conditions. For example, an icon of the sun represents sunny weather conditions. To view a text description of the general weather conditions, point to the applet to display a tooltip. The current temperature. To add &applet; to a panel, right-click on the panel, then choose Add to PanelAccessories&applet;. When you add the &applet; applet to a panel for the first time, the applet displays the weather for Pittsburg, Pennsylvania by default. To display the weather for a different location, perform the following steps: Right-click on the applet. Choose Preferences from the applet popup menu. The applet displays the Weather Preferences dialog. Select the Location tab. The Location tabbed section contains a list of geographical regions, subregions, and specific locations. Click on the arrow next to a region to display the subregions in the region. Click on the arrow next to a subregion to display the locations in the subregion. Click on a location. While the applet retrieves the weather information for the new location, the tooltip "Updating" is displayed when you point to the applet. Click Close to close the Weather Preferences dialog. To update the weather information that the applet displays in the panel, right-click on the applet, then choose Update. You can configure the applet to automatically update the information at regular intervals. See for more information about how to configure the applet. To view detailed weather information, right-click on the applet, then choose Forecast. The applet displays the Forecast dialog. The Forecast dialog contains the following default tabbed sections: Current Conditions Forecast The Current Conditions tabbed section displays the following information: City Location to which the current weather conditions apply. Last update Time at which the weather conditions were last updated on the weather server. Conditions General weather conditions. Sky General sky conditions. Temperature Current temperature. Dew point Temperature at which dew forms. Humidity Percentage of moisture in the atmosphere. Wind Direction and speed of the wind. Pressure Atmospheric pressure in inches of mercury. Visibility Range of vision as determined by the light and atmosphere conditions. The Forecast tabbed section displays a forecast for the location for the immediate future, usually the next five days. Forecasts are only available for some locations in the U.S.A. By default, the Radar Map tabbed section is not displayed in the Forecast dialog. See for more information about how to configure the applet to display radar maps. &applet; downloads the radar maps from www.weather.com. If the radar map is not available from www.weather.com, the applet displays a question mark. To go to the www.weather.com web site, click on the Visit Weather.com button. If your computer is located behind a firewall you must use a proxy server to run &applet; successfully. To configure the GNOME Desktop to use a proxy server, use your preference tools to specify the network proxy server for Internet connections. To configure &applet;, right-click on the applet, then choose Preferences. The Weather Preferences dialog contains the following tabbed sections: General Location Automatically update every ... minutes Select this option to enable the applet to automatically retrieve updated information from the weather server at regular intervals. Use the spin box to specify the interval at which the applet retrieves updated information from the weather server. Use metric system units Select this option to use metric units of measurement instead of imperial units of measurement in the applet. This option affects the following parameters: Parameter Imperial System Metric System Temperature and dew point degrees Fahrenheit degrees Celsius Wind speed miles per hour (mph) kilometers per hour (kph) Pressure inches of mercury (inHg) millimeters of mercury (mmHg) Visibility miles kilometers Enable radar map Select this option to enable the applet to display radar maps in a Radar Map tabbed section of the Forecast dialog. Use custom address for radar map By default, &applet; downloads the radar maps from www.weather.com. Select this option to display radar maps from an alternative Internet address. Type the address in the Address text box. The Location tabbed section enables you to select the location for which you want to display the current and forecast weather conditions.
