         The <application>&applet;</application> applet downloads weather information from the U.S National Weather Service (NWS) servers, including the Interactive Weather Information Network (IWIN). You can use <application>&applet;</application> to display current weather information and weather forecasts on your computer.

      <title>Usage</title>
      <sect2 id="gweather-change-location">
         <title>To View Weather Information for a Particular Location</title>
         <para>
            When you add the <application>&applet;</application> applet to a panel for the first time, the applet displays the weather for Pittsburg, Pennsylvania by default. To display the weather for a different location, perform the following steps:
         </para>

                  Right-click on the applet.
               </para>
            </listitem>
            <listitem>
               <para>
                  Choose <guimenuitem>Preferences</guimenuitem> from the applet popup menu. The applet displays the <guilabel>Weather Preferences</guilabel> dialog.

            <listitem>
               <para>
                  Select the <guilabel>Location</guilabel> tab. The <guilabel>Location</guilabel> tabbed section contains a list of geographical regions, subregions, and specific locations.
               </para>
            </listitem>
            <listitem>
               <para>
                  Click on the arrow next to a region to display the subregions in the region.
               </para>
            </listitem>
            <listitem>
               <para>
                  Click on the arrow next to a subregion to display the locations in the subregion.
               </para>
            </listitem>
            <listitem>
               <para>
                  Click on a location. While the applet retrieves the weather information for the new location, the tooltip "Updating" is displayed when you point to the applet.
               </para>

               <para>
                  Click <guibutton>Close</guibutton> to close the <guilabel>Weather Preferences</guilabel> dialog.
               </para>

         <title>To Update the Weather Information</title>
         <para>
            To update the weather information that the applet displays in the panel, right-click on the applet, then choose <guimenuitem>Update</guimenuitem>.

            You can configure the applet to automatically update the information at regular intervals. See <xref linkend="gweather-configure"/> for more information about how to configure the applet.

         <title>To View Detailed Weather Information</title>

            To view detailed weather information, right-click on the applet, then choose <guimenuitem>Forecast</guimenuitem>. The applet displays the <guilabel>Forecast</guilabel> dialog. The <guilabel>Forecast</guilabel> dialog contains the following default tabbed sections:

               The <guilabel>Forecast</guilabel> tabbed section displays a forecast for the location for the immediate future, usually the next five days.

            <title>Radar Map</title>

               By default, the <guilabel>Radar Map</guilabel> tabbed section is not displayed in the <guilabel>Forecast</guilabel> dialog. See <xref linkend="gweather-configure"/> for more  information about how to configure the applet to display radar maps. <application>&applet;</application>  downloads the radar maps from www.weather.com. If the radar map is not available from www.weather.com, the applet displays a question mark. To go to the www.weather.com web site, click on the <guibutton>Visit Weather.com</guibutton> button.

      <title>To Set a Proxy Server</title>
      <para>If your computer is located behind a firewall you must use a proxy server to run <application>&applet;</application> successfully. To configure the GNOME Desktop to use a proxy server, use your preference tools to specify the network proxy server for Internet connections.

         To configure <application>&applet;</application>, right-click on the applet, then choose <guimenuitem>Preferences</guimenuitem>. The <guilabel>Weather Preferences</guilabel> dialog contains the following tabbed sections:
