The 2005 IAG/IAPSO/IABO Joint Assembly will offer a scientific program encompassing the most recent advances in geodesy, oceanography and marine biology. The dynamic nature of our planet naturally creates interactions of life within the oceans, the oceans themselves and the continents and many of the symposium sessions cover interdisciplinary themes. A total of 26 sessions are being planned, including one dedicated to the CENSUS OF MARINE LIFE. In addition, more focussed sessions will include one on PELAGIC BIOGEOGRAPHY. -CoML DNA Barcoding Meeting, Amsterdam, the Netherlands (May, 2006)
Plans are progressing for a "DNA Barcoding Workshop for CoML" coordinating workshop, which will likely be held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 15-17 May 2006. Host Annelies Pierrot-Bults.
The primary objective of the workshop will be to coordinate DNA barcoding efforts that are already ongoing as part of CoML projects. The ultimate goal of a CoML barcoding initiative will be to establish a public archive of DNA barcodes linked to voucher specimens (or voucher DNA) for the species of marine life that are being identified or newly described, counted, and analyzed as part of the global CoML effort.Related website: www.BarCodingMarineLife.org
