As requested by Ann, below is an outline of the assorted tasks associated with the Wheelhouse software development and how they currently stand.
Module Function Status
Athena Sensor operating program From WHOI, used as is.
KMAN Controls Athena From WHOI, being modified.
Working with Dave's sensor
for now. Some coding awaits
Gary's units.
Galaxy I/O to satellite From Trimble, needs mods.
Need to be on-line to make
much progress - soon, we hope.
Vessel GUI Screen input & display Done
Trip GUI Screen input & display Done
Tow GUI Screen input & display In progress
Catch GUI Screen input & display In progress
Stripcharts Parameter displays In progress using MFC routines
(second scale units may prove
difficult so for now we may
opt for one scale and fix it
later).
CAP'N Nav. software Seems ok. Doesn't like
Trimble's GPS sentence format.
May opt for independent unit.
Integration Make various applications Just begun
and subroutines invisible
to operator with seamless
clicking between Cap'n and
Wheelhouse with comms in
background.
De-bug Anticipate problems when we
port software to Craig's new
machine.
Learning curve has been steep on much of this stuff so I view current progress as satisfactory. We will keep the strip chart displays as a lower priority for now. Integration may be a convoluted process so some of the desired slickness may develop during the initial evaluations.
We are exploring the options for a student to help on some of the discrete programming tasks. If a candidate surfaces who can hit the keyboard running, then this will give us a useful cushion for meeting the September date.
