Server and Access Computers

JGOFS Server

Portland Fish Exchange has a contract with Hiway Technologies, Inc. to host their Web site. This SGI computer system can be used as the JGOFS data server as well. They do have serveral constaints, the most awkward is the requirement that all programs run out of the "cgi-local" directory. This will require some programming changes, but they can be accommodated.

Access Computer

I propose that we fund the purchase of a fairly robust computer system for the Portland Fish Exchange's use to facilitate their involvement in our project. They will have to provide content and edit data for the web server, receive e-mail from the vessel(s), and prepare e-mail and other messages for vessels and others. In addition, I propose that we provide $500 towards the purchase of 24/7 access to the Internet. These funds will cover three months of Internet access only. After that time, the PFE will be responsible for the cost. An additional $200 is set aside in case Hiway Technologies, Inc. assesses a charge for disk space use.

  1. Provide $200 startup and $100 for three months for Roadrunner 24/7 internet access. Subtotal: $500

  2. Provide $3,300 for a Dell Dimension PC (as configured in your e-mail, plus additional memory) for the NOPP PC machine.

  3. Provide $200 contingency funds for additional disk storage to cover data storage at the HiWay web site server.

    Total: $4,000
