2007 - Pan Regional Synthesis: AO
As the culmination of a series of solicitations for the U.S. Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics
Program (U.S. GLOBEC), this solicitation seeks a broader understanding of climate impacts on
marine ecosystems that builds upon findings from the three regional U.S. GLOBEC studies: the
Northwest Atlantic, the Northeast Pacific, and the Southern Ocean. Investigators submitting
proposals in response to this solicitation should focus on: (1) synthetic activities,
including conceptual and analytical modeling activities that capitalize upon and integrate
concepts, methods, and/or data from the prior solicitations; (2) broad-scale studies including
comparisons across system types, encompassing both GLOBEC and non-GLOBEC study areas; and/or
(3) the development of management strategies at the population, community, and ecosystem
levels. Participation of investigators new to the U.S. GLOBEC program is strongly encouraged
to maximize the scope of the synthesis.
- 2005 - Synthesis in the Northwest Atlantic/Georges Bank Program and the Northeast Pacific/Coastal Gulf of Alaska Program
As part of a continuing series of solicitations for the U.S. Global Ocean Ecosystem Dynamics
Program (U.S. GLOBEC), this solicitation covers two distinct regions - the Northwest Atlantic
(NWA) and the Northeast Pacific (NEP). Proposals submitted to the NWA regions continued
synthesis of data from the NWA/Georges Bank projects and conducted comparative analysis of
upstream and broader, basin-scale studies. Proposals submitted to the NEP regions
initiated synthesis of data from the Coastal Gulf of Alaska (CGOA) and conducted comparative
analyses of the CGOA with the California Current System and other appropriate ocean regions.
- 2005 - Southern Ocean GLOBEC Synthesis and Modeling
The overall goals of the U.S. Southern Ocean Global Oceans Ecosystems Dynamics (SO GLOBEC)
program are to elucidate shelf-circulation processes and their effect on sea-ice formation
and krill distribution, and to examine the factors that govern krill survivorship and
availability to higher trophic levels, including penguins, seals and whales. The field and
process studies undertaken in the first phase of SO GLOBEC resulted in new data sets and an
increased understanding of climatic and geophysical forcing factors that structure ecological
communities in the Southern Ocean. This solicitation is for proposals to conduct synthesis
and modeling of data from U.S. SO GLOBEC field studies and to incorporate comparative studies
using data sets from other appropriate regions and programs.
- 2004 - Northeast Pacific (NEP) Program Phase IIIa. Synthesis for the California Current System
This was part of a continuing series of solicitations for U.S. GLOBEC
and was the fourth solicitation as part of the U.S.
GLOBEC Northeast Pacific (NEP) Program. This solicitation seeks proposals to initiate the
Phase IIIa synthesis of data from the California Current System (CCS), and comparative
analyses of the CCS with other appropriate ocean regions.
- 2001 - Northwest Atlantic/Georges Bank Synthesis (Turned Out to be Phase I of NWA Syntesis)
This request for proposals constitutes the initiation of the fourth and final phase of the
U.S. GLOBEC/Northwest Atlantic Program. Its principal objective is to foster integration
and synthesis of data collected during the field phases of the program and other relevant
data and knowledge, through group interactions and modeling activities. Investigators who
were not involved in the first three phases of the program, but who had new ideas about how
to analyze or model currently available data sets were strongly encouraged to participate.
Investigators involved in the first three field phases of the program were encouraged to
collaborate in the integration of their data sets with other data sets to facilitate
multi-disciplinary approaches to understanding factors affecting the dynamics of the target
organisms.
- 2000 - Northeast Pacific/Coastal Gulf of Alaska Field Program
This document solicits proposals to support three field activities in the Coastal Gulf of
Alaska ecosystem: (1) process-oriented field studies; (2) mesoscale surveys; and (3)
long-term observation projects; and two activities of broader scope: (4) modeling studies
in the CCS and CGOA; and (5) retrospective studies in the CCS and CGOA.
- 1999 - The U.S. Southern Ocean Global Ocean Ecosystems Dynamics (SO GLOBEC) Program Solicitation
The overall goals of the SO GLOBEC program are to elucidate shelf circulation processes
and their effect on sea ice formation and krill distribution, and to examine the factors
which govern krill survivorship and availability to higher trophic levels, including
penguins, seals and whales. This solicitation seeks broad-scale synoptic studies and
process-oriented investigations, conducted primarily during the austral winter. The goals
of US GLOBEC include improving the predictability of living marine resources, especially
with respect to local and global climatic shifts. Therefore synthesis and modeling studies
which address this need are also encouraged.
- 1999 - Northeast Pacific/California Current System Field Porgram
This Announcement solicits proposals for all future U.S. GLOBEC research activities in
the CCS. This includes process-study research in the two field phases of the CCS program
in 2000 and 2002. In addition to soliciting research proposals for field work in the U.S.
GLOBEC CCS program, this Notice requests proposals for modeling and retrospective analysis
that augments or complements existing U.S. GLOBEC NEP efforts in these components.
- 1997 - Northwest Atlantic Field Studies, Phase III: Modeling, Observation and Process Field Studies, and Synthesis
The U.S. GLOBEC effort in the Northwest Atlantic has an overall goal of improving
predictability and management of living marine resources of the region through improved
understanding of ecosystem interactions and the coupling between the physical environment
and the living resources. This Announcement of Opportunity provides an opportunity for U.S.
scientists to propose modeling, broad-scale and process-oriented field studies, and
synthesis/comparative analysis projects that address the broad intersection of basic and
applied research interests of the Northwest Atlantic Georges Bank program. This
Announcement of Opportunity addresses the anticipated third and final field phase of the
U.S. GLOBEC program on Georges Bank.
- 1995 - Northwest Atlantic Field Studies, Phase II
The U.S. GLOBEC Northwest Atlantic / Georges Bank research program comprises four major
components: broad-scale field survey and observation studies; process-oriented field
studies; modeling investigations; and retrospective analyses. This Announcement invites
proposals in these four areas, constituting Phase II of this program.
