Spectral albedos and transmittances were measured at station Billy on 18 August 2001. Sky conditions were broken overcast with high variable clouds. Transmittance measurements were first made for snow covered ice. The snow was 6.5 cm deep, with 1.5 cm of soft new wind crust and 5 cm of older depth hoar. The snow is described in SN-18. The ice was 30 cm thick and is described in CR-121.

The snow was then shoveled off and the albedo and transmittance of bare ice were measured. Note that the removal of the 6.5-cm-deep snowcover resulted in an order of magnitude increase in the visible transmittance.
