Snowpits were dug at selected locations along the ice survey lines. Vertical profiles of snow temperature, density, grain size, and grain type were measured. Ice and slush layers were also noted.
The plot on the right shows results from Snowpit 11 (Event 98) on 9 August 2001. The location was Ice Station Robert at latitude 68 02 S and longitude 70 06 W. The convention is the zero height, or zero depth is the bottom of the snowpack. Results from the 22 snowpits are summarized in a table. |
