Mooring Positions

Important Notice: Broad-scale surveys need to be aware that moorings are located near Broad-scale standard stations #9, 20, 25 and 39. Watch out for them so that you do not tow too near them.

In general, Science Buoys have sensors and instrumentation on the mooring line. Guard Buoys typically have no instrumentation . A map of the mooring locations superimposed on the broad-scale track line is available.

• Long-Term Moored Program (Irish, Beardsley, Brink)
  • Southern Flank Mooring
    • Guard Buoy C - Deployed Oct-96 - 40-58.13 N x 67 19.14 W
      • Note: This mooring was reported missing by Oceanus on April 24, 1997. On May 11, 1997, the Oceanus reported that F/V Endevor recovered this buoy (marked "C") which was adrift at 40 12'N / 68 13'W at about 2020.
      • The mooring has been recovered and will be redeployed when shiptime is available.
    • Guard Buoy F - Deployed Oct-96 - 40-58.01N x 67 19.32W
    • Science Buoy E - Deployed Oct-96 - 40-58.04N x 67 19.22W
      • Note: The mooring broke free but was recovered during D. Mountain's cruise, and will be redeployed when shiptime is available.

  • Northeast Peak Mooring
    • Canadian Guard L - Deployed Sep-96 - 41 43.96 N x 66 31.87 W
      • Note: this mooring is no longer in place. There are no plans to replace it.
    • Canadian Guard A (originally called AC) - Redeployed April 1997 - 41 43.988 N x 66 32.380 W
    • Science Buoy B - Redeployed April 1997 - 41 43.92 N x 66 32.16 W
