GLOBEC Northeast Pacific Program Mapping of Physical and Biological Fields in the Northern California Current July 31 - August 19, 2002

July 23, 2002
Final Planning Meeting

Final plans are being made for the July 31 through August 19 GLOBEC cruise.  A final planning meeting was held at the College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences Admin building at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.  Loading details were discussed and decided upon for the three ships that will be loading at the dock in Newport.  Three ships, the R/V Revelle, R/V New Horizon, and the R/V Wecoma will be docked and loaded from July 28 to July 30 with the Revelle scheduled to leave at 4pm on Wednesday, July 31.

Several last minute modifications were worked out for some of the instrument packages that will be used on the Revelle and the New Horizon.   Also discussed were the labs each different instrument team would be using on the ships and the different requirements they would need.

Excitement is building as loading day approaches.  One aspect of ocean research from a ship is becoming apparent:  bring everything you need for 3 weeks because there are no chances to pick up something you may have forgotten!

Next update will be July 30.
