GLOBEC Northeast Pacific Program Mapping of Physical and Biological Fields in the Northern California Current July 31 - August 19, 2002

August 15, 2002
South fine scale survey complete

9:33 a.m.:  With the south fine scale survey complete, the Revelle is moving on to the mesoscale survey again.  This time the survey will be conducted from the south to the north ending near Newport.  Saturday morning we should be near the location of the bio-optical drifters and will take the SeaSoar and HTI out of the water and conduct station work.
It is foggy and smoky again today near the California border and the ship is running the foghorn to warn other vessels of our approach.

1:30 p.m.:  As we move ashore under sunny skies, the forest fire smoke can be clearly seen to the east.  Shown below is a plot that shows the locations of the drifters, some of which we will try to rendezvous with on Saturday morning.
