Newport8:00 a.m.: Dockside in Newport! The three
weeks are over and the unloading begins. It will take most of
the day to pack-up and offload the scientific equipment from the
Revelle. The heavy SeaSoar and HTI equipment will take even
longer to offload which means that the marine techs will stay on board
Monday night and work most of the day on Tuesday.
The ship has sailed over 3,478 nautical miles or 4,000 statute miles during
the last three weeks. Even though it seems as if the hard work
is over, it is actually just the beginning for the scientists.
The data collected from this cruise will be analyzed and compared with
data collected from the same area on past cruises.
Thanks to all who followed this website during the cruise and gave
us email feedback! The GLOBEC August 2002 cruise will be
remembered by those who participated for a long time to come.
