Bio-optics group My thesis work is actually in the Southern Ocean, examining the spatial
structure of physical and bio-optical distributions across the Antarctic
Polar Front. Mesoscale spatial variability in the Polar Front's position
(meandering) and dynamics (upwelling and downwelling) interacts with variability
in light and nutrients in interesting ways. But I jumped at the chance
to join this cruise off the Oregon coast, because I love being out at
sea and really can not get enough of it. Popcorn is a very important
aspect of life at sea for me.
One of the things I enjoy doing with my free time on
shore is volunteer outreach to physical oceanographers, trying to tear
them away from their computers and walk across the street for some
Thai food occasionally.
